When Europe faced an energy crisis after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports, led by Texas and Louisiana, provided critical relief, helping stabilize global markets and reduce reliance on Russian energy. The Port of Corpus Christi is now a leader in LNG exports, reinforcing Texas’ role as a global energy lifeline.
Closer to home, U.S. exports to Mexico hit record highs in 2024, averaging 6.4 billion cubic feet per day, 25 percent above 2019 levels. Nearly all of this product comes from West and South Texas, where new pipelines have strengthened cross-border connections. Today, roughly 60 percent of the natural gas used in Mexico originates in Texas, highlighting how our state’s production fuels prosperity on both sides of the border.
Texas is also shaping America’s energy future through infrastructure investment. Phillips 66 and Kinder Morgan recently announced the Western Gateway Pipeline, a 1,300-mile system connecting Borger, Texas, to Arizona and California. The pipeline will move 200,000 barrels per day and create a direct corridor to Western markets, improving reliability in states facing refinery shortages. Projects like this reinforce Texas’ status as the backbone of U.S. energy delivery, keeping fuel flowing to American homes, businesses, and allies abroad.
With nearly a quarter of the nation’s natural gas reserves, Texas continues to anchor U.S. energy strength.
