Southern Methodist University economist Bernard Weinstein sharply refuted a key talking point of anti-pipeline activists in Dallas last week. In an interview with Fox 4, Weinstein stated:
“Every time there is a pipeline proposed anywhere in the country, there is a protest. And the reason is the environmental community, who is opposed to fossil fuels, has adopted a strategy of fighting pipelines. The theory being if we can stop pipelines we can kill the industry.”
“If you’re building a new pipeline today, you’re using the best available technology, much better welding. Springing a leak is pretty close to zero.”
Last week, protesters in Dallas attempted to use the very talking point refuted by Weinstein to protest pipeline company Energy Transfer Partners. Two protestors were arrested for disorderly conduct.
