A recent Real Clear Energy op-ed pushes back against proration, a policy being pushed by anti-oil and gas activists. R Street Institute senior fellow Josiah Neeley writes:
“Proration would be an administrative nightmare, and could do long term damage to the integrity of any state’s oil market without achieving any of its stated objectives. There is a reason states like Texas that once used proration have long since abandoned the practice.… During times of crisis, the temptation for politicians to ‘just do something’ is understandable. But proration is not the right something.”
As anti-oil and gas activists attempt to use proration as a way to exploit the ongoing pandemic to work towards their ultimate goal of ending oil and gas production, Texas is rejecting their pleas. Last month the Texas Railroad Commission rejected their recent efforts and voted “no” on proration.
