Emerging technologies are transforming the oil and natural gas industry, making it more sustainable and efficient. At the Energy Elevated Technology Showcase, companies highlighted innovative solutions that are driving progress in the energy field.

The Texas Oil & Gas Association (TXOGA) recently hosted its annual Energy Elevated Technology Showcase in San Antonio, shedding light on advancements that are reshaping the oil and natural gas industry. This event, held in collaboration with the Texas Methane & Flaring Coalition, highlighted commitment to sustainability, efficiency, and environmental protection through constant innovation.

TXOGA President Todd Staples emphasized the role of innovation in ensuring America remains a global energy powerhouse: “Innovation is the driving force in making the United States—led by Texas—the world’s energy powerhouse. From the wellhead, through the pipelines, to the refineries and export facilities, Texas oil and natural gas companies set the bar for operational excellence and environmental progress. I am delighted to see so many pioneers of innovation at today’s Energy Elevated Showcase to spotlight world-class technologies that are helping to make the world cleaner, stronger and better.”

At the center of this year’s Showcase was a focus on emissions reduction, remote monitoring, safety, automation, and data analytics. These technologies illustrated how oil and gas companies are making strides in reducing their environmental footprint while maintaining high operational standards.

The event featured six companies at the forefront of innovation:

  • SMARTLink: Known for its advanced remote monitoring technologies, SMARTLink produces tools that monitor storage tanks through GPS, radar, ultrasonic, and pressure monitors. These devices provide real-time data that allows operators to make informed decisions, all while reducing risk and enhancing environmental compliance.
  • Transect: The winner of the Audience Favorite Award, Transect offers a data aggregation platform that helps companies assess potential sites quickly. By providing instant access to environmental data and permit requirements, Transect enables faster and more informed decision-making. This altogether reduces the time and cost involved in environmental assessments.
  • Qube Technologies: Using Internet of Things (IoT) devices, Qube monitors for methane and other emissions in real time, offering the capability to detect, localize, and quantify emissions with precision. Their system enables operators to respond to leaks quickly, significantly reducing methane emissions.
  • Maze Environmental: Awarded the Most Innovative Award, Maze developed a patented vapor and liquid recovery tower and stabilization tower designed to work with existing oil and gas infrastructure. Their technology reduces tank emissions and flaring while also enhancing oil recovery, offering both environmental and economic gains.
  • Alert 360: Providing mobile video surveillance solutions, Alert 360’s video shield mobile surveillance unit is a weatherproof, solar-powered unit tailored for remote oil and gas job sites. This technology improves safety and monitoring in hard-to-reach locations, reducing the need for on-site personnel and offering real-time insights into site conditions.
  • Satelytics: Through the use of AI and machine learning applications, Satelytics uses cloud-based software to analyze multispectral imagery for detecting and measuring concentrations of biological and chemical components. Their algorithms provide insights that help companies target specific areas of risk.

A key moment of the event was a fireside chat between Staples and State Representative Giovanni Capriglione, Chairman of the House Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence & Emerging Technologies. They discussed the transformative role of AI in the oil and gas industry, acknowledging both the challenges and opportunities it presents.

AI is revolutionizing how the oil and gas industry approaches emissions detection, risk management, and operational efficiency. AI-driven technologies allow companies to process vast amounts of data, predict potential issues long before they occur, and optimize processes to reduce energy waste and environmental impact.

The technologies showcased at Energy Elevated represent a future where the oil and gas industry can produce energy while actively working to reduce its environmental impact. Innovations like real-time methane detection, emissions reduction towers, and advanced monitoring systems demonstrate a commitment to meeting the world’s energy needs sustainably.

As demonstrated by the presenters at the Showcase, the oil and gas industry’s focus on technology, efficiency, and sustainability ensures it can remain a key energy provider while addressing environmental concerns head-on. Through the relentless pursuit of innovation, Texas companies are leading the way toward a more sustainable energy future.
