Earlier this week, the “Green New Deal” pushed by extreme environmentalists failed in the U.S. Senate without a single vote in favor. Texas Senator John Cornyn recently penned an op-ed that explained how the plan, which calls for an end to the use of oil and natural gas, is not the best approach:

“Instead of flipping the kill switch on the energy sources that power our country, we should follow an example set by Texas and unleash the power of the private sector…By encouraging the research and development of new technologies that reduce emissions or capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, we can lead the world in smart climate policies without raising the price tag on Texas taxpayers.”

On the local level, several Texas cities have pushed for climate action plans with similar overreaching goals. San Antonio recently delayed a planned vote on their climate action plan until this fall.

San Antonio’s proposed climate action plan is being pushed by New York’s Michael Bloomberg and was described as “the heavy hand of regulation” by a local editor. Similar plans in other cities have spiked electric costs for residents.
