Recognizing the exceptional contributions of industry leaders, the Eagle Ford Excellence Awards celebrate innovation, community engagement, and environmental stewardship that drive South Texas forward.
The South Texas Energy and Economic Roundtable (STEER) recently held its 12th Annual Eagle Ford Excellence Awards, recognizing the contributions of companies and organizations within the oil and natural gas industry. This year’s recipients, described further below, showcased their collective commitment to innovation, community, and environmental stewardship that defines the Eagle Ford region.
The Eagle Ford Shale has significantly influenced the South Texas economy, generating reliable and affordable energy that supports both local communities and international markets, and the economic benefits extend beyond production. The revenues from oil and gas activities boost funding for essential infrastructure such as roads and schools, while also facilitating environmental advancements.
Todd Staples, president of the Texas Oil & Gas Association, highlighted the collaborative efforts of industry leaders and community partners in driving economic growth while maintaining a focus on environmental progress. “The recipients of the Eagle Ford Excellence Awards are a shining example of this innovation, service, and environmental commitment at work,” he said.
The awards, presented at a special luncheon in San Antonio, celebrated excellence in several key areas:
Community and Social Investment
WAKM LEPC: This Local Emergency Planning Committee has set a standard for rural community leadership by facilitating collaboration between local governments and the oil industry to enhance emergency response strategies. Their quarterly meetings draw hundreds of attendees, ensuring effective communication and coordination.
3S Services: With a 15-year philanthropic history, 3S Services has raised over $1 million for local nonprofits and supports community initiatives, including scholarships and holiday drives. Their commitment to giving back reflects a connection to the communities they serve.
Environmental Stewardship
Aegis Chemical Solutions: Known for its corrosion inhibitors, Aegis focuses on protecting the environment while ensuring operational efficiency for oil and gas operators. Their efforts help reduce equipment failures, which in turn safeguards the local ecosystem.
Repsol: The company has made progress with its temporary water recycling facility, which has recycled over 657,000 barrels of water, significantly reducing the need for groundwater and minimizing truck traffic. This initiative not only benefits local operators but also promotes sustainable water management practices.
Innovation in Technology
Milestone Environmental Services: As the largest energy waste sequestration company in the U.S., Milestone is leading the charge in carbon management. Their advanced slurry injection technology has sequestered over 390,820 MT of CO2e (2,380 roundtrip flights between New York and London) in 2023 alone, demonstrating a commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of the oil and gas industry.
Rio Grande E&P: This forward-thinking company has been pivotal in advancing horizontal drilling techniques in the Eagle Ford and Austin Chalk formations. Their innovative approaches have positioned Webb County as a leader in natural gas production, positively impacting both Texas and Mexico’s economies.
Neighborhood Impression
Cal Ripken STEM Centers: Collaborating with multiple oil and gas operators, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation has established STEM Centers at Karnes City Elementary and Kenedy Middle School. These centers provide students with access to cutting-edge technology and hands-on learning experiences, fostering problem-solving and teamwork skills essential for the next generation.
In summary, the Eagle Ford Excellence Awards demonstrated the profound impact that dedicated companies and organizations have on their communities and the environment. As the industry continues to evolve, the spirit of collaboration and innovation remains vital, ensuring that the region not only produces energy but also nurtures a sustainable and prosperous future for all.
