A climate action plan implemented by the City of Georgetown is leading residents to see their electric bills spike. Over the past four years, electricity costs for the 71,000 residents of Georgetown have gone up $1,219 per household.
Georgetown’s climate action plan first came about in 2012, with the city shifting its municipal utility to 100 percent renewable energy. Extreme environmentalist groups are pushing other cities, including Austin and San Antonio, to implement similar plans.
Former liberal New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg recently awarded Austin and San Antonio for their efforts to create similar plans to Georgetown. Bloomberg touted that each city would be awarded $2.5 million towards their plans, but it was later revealed that there would not actually be any grant money with the award, leaving residents of Austin and San Antonio to pay for extreme, “difficult” to implement environmental plans.
